Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Israeli-Palestinian Interfaith Retreat

In a warm act of reconciliation, Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister clasped each other's hand in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt in a gesture of peace as both sides committed to a ceasefire in a conflict which has cost many Israeli and Palestinian lives. Noticias Positivas Argentina
Graham Forrest

The Positive News International network was recently extended into Latin America, through a positive news web site launched in Argentina. The founders, both journalists linked to the national newspaper La Nación, Andrea Méndez Brandam and María Teresa Morresi, spent the previous two years presenting a radio show devoted to the new opportunities available to ethical entrepreneurs in the form of clean technologies and processes, fair trade and community-based production initiatives. After contacting Positive News in the UK and then Noticias Positivas in Spain, they felt inspired to embark on their own positive project.

Small Change, Big Difference

One of the most disturbing consequences of globalisation is the increasing wealth of a few individuals at the expense of billions of people living in growing poverty. Most foreign multinationals investing in the developing world are primarily interested in low labour costs, rather than building strong local economies to benefit local people. Without the development of robust economies, the future for many people seems bleak.

VIEWPOINT

Planting the Seeds of Peace

"I stand before you and the world humbled by this recognition and uplifted by the honour of being the 2004 Nobel Peace Laureate," said Wangari Maathai after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo Norway. Here are further extracts from her speech.

"As the first African woman to receive this prize, I accept it on behalf of the people of Kenya and Africa, and indeed the world. I am especially mindful of women and the girl child. I hope it will encourage them to raise their voices and take more space for leadership. I know the honour also gives a deep sense of pride to our men, both old and young. As a mother, I appreciate the inspiration this brings to the youth and urge them to use it to pursue their dreams. "
