Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Positive Youth News
Stories by Nicole Vosper

Just Think

After growing concern about the ever-increasing amount of messages young people receive through modern media such as television and the internet, the organisation, Just Think, was formed to encourage them to think for them-selves. It has been training both youth and adults in media arts and technology for eight years, not just in the US but also internationally. It aims to teach media literacy skills and to help young people tell their own stories, and create their own identities.

Eco Transport in the Austrian Alps

Imagine going on your holidays to the Austrian Alps and only needing one key to guarantee unlimited mobility and the use of over twenty different modes of transport: electric cars, E-scooters, E-fun-riders, bicycles and horse carriages, mostly running on sustainable wind and solar energy. With its Sanfte Mobilitat scheme, the town of Werfenweng has become a model for car-free tourism.

Letters To The Editor

We welcome your comments and feedback.  Please limit comments to 150 words. We reserve the right to edit letters which are longer than this.

Here is a message from the Dalai Lama for 2005.

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

3. Follow the three Rs:

      Respect for self
      Respect for others
      Responsibility for all our actions.

4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.

6. Don't let a little dispute injure a great relationship.

7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

8. Spend some time alone every day.

9. Open arms to change, but don't let go of your values.

10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

11. Live a good, honourable life. Then when you get older and think back you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.

12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.

13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.

14. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.

15. Be gentle with the Earth.

16. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.

17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.

18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

19. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

We hope the message brings you happiness and joy.

If you can convince us that you are one of the six we are looking for, we will free you for five years to achieve your ambition. Waging Peace
www.wagingpeace.org

Our goal is to help you to wage peace in order to create a safer and saner world for all the world's people and for generations yet to come. "A great revolution in just one single individual will help achieve a change in the destiny of a society and, further, will enable a change in the destiny of humankind."

Peace Heroes
peaceheroes@napf.org

On this page you can read about some of the world's great peace heroes, individuals who have made major contributions to creating a more peaceful world. These peace heroes can provide new role models for young people seeking to build a more just and peaceful world, and they provide a good place to start for anyone who wishes to make a difference in creating a more peaceful world. We are always seeking to expand our list of peace heroes. If you would like to submit an essay, please check with us first. Essays should be between 1,000 and 2,000 words in length. Send your inquiry to peaceheroes@napf.org  and in the subject line put Peace Heroes.

Youth Outreach Initiative
Often viewed as a highly intellectual and scientific issue, nuclear weapons can be a particularly daunting topic of conversation for anyone. The same can be said for any issue related to war and peace. In particular, young people represent an often neglected and marginalized constituency who tend to be discouraged from learning about and debating these admittedly difficult, yet critical themes. We at the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation reject this trend. We acknowledge that youth culture and resistance have been powerful forces for social change for centuries. We respect the energy and creativity of today's youth. The resources listed below are intended to help young people, educators and parents alike in exploring the common ground between youth organizing and nuclear weapons issues. Send us your thoughts and questions. We'd love to hear from you! Other priorities of the Foundation include working to strengthen international law and institutions and inspiring and empowering a new generation of peace leaders.

The World Habitat Awards
www.bshf.org

The World Habitat Awards were established in 1985 by the Building and Social Housing Foundation as part of its contribution to the United Nations International Year of Shelter for the Homeless. Two awards are given annually to projects that provide practical and innovative solutions to current housing needs and problems: one for a project in the global north and the other for a project in the global south. Every year an award of £10,000 is presented to each of the two winners at the annual United Nations global celebration of World Habitat Day. Travel and accommodation costs are also met for one representative of each winning project to attend the awards ceremony.
