Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the
leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost
entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this
represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media
and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since
we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to
collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.
The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and
deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are
doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.
Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and
people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can
achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the
true nature of who we are.
Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural
models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems
and create new options.
Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN.
We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision
of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Gross National Happiness: The True
Measure Of Success? Bhutan - His Holiness, The
Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, recently received an Honorary Fellowship
from Liverpool John Moores University during his official visit to
Britain. His Holiness is supporting the movement for happiness to be
adopted as an economic indicator. In a letter of support to an
international conference in Bhutan on Gross National Happiness, he
writes: “As a Buddhist, I believe the purpose of our lives is to
overcome suffering and cultivate happiness. But by happiness, I do
not only mean the temporary pleasure that is derived from material
comfort alone. I am thinking more of the enduring happiness that
results from the thorough transformation and development of the mind
that can be achieved though the cultivation of such qualities as
compassion, patience and wisdom. At the same time, on national and
global levels we need an economic system that enables such a pursuit
of true happiness. The purpose of economic development should be to
contribute to rather than obstruct this goal.”

Monsanto Abandons Genetic
Modification of Wheat Global - The Monsanto
company has stopped the commercial development of Genetically
Modified (GM) wheat worldwide. The announcement was greeted with
jubilation by environmentalists who were already celebrating the
decision by BayerCrop Science to abandon its GM operation in the UK
where it had planned to grow GM maize for animal feed. This means
that, effectively, there is no prospect of GM crops being grown
commercially in Britain in the next decade.

Eco-Tourist Project Aims To Create
Global Model Portugal - BioRegional and its
partner, WWF, have launched a large-scale eco-tourism project in
Portugal, which replaces a proposal to build a conventional tourist
resort.Claude Martin, Director General WWF International, in the
chip fat powered sports car driven from the UK to Lisbon by
BioRegional’s Director, Pooran Desai as an alternative to travelling
by air and to highlight the potential of bio fuels.

Peace Child Gives Young Leaders A
Voice For Change Global - A global movement
inspired by Gandhi’s insight, ‘Be the change you want to see in the
world’ is gathering pace. 1,000 young people came together last year
in Morocco, under the auspices of Peace Child International, for Be
The Change, which was opened by the King of Morocco. Next year,
Scotland will host a similar event.

Flag Festival Heralds Unity In
Diversity
Indonesia - In Bali people paint Umbul Umbul flags to
proclaim the presence of the gods and signify consciousness at the
highest levels. In a country where everyone is an artist, these
flags are used for rituals and festivals throughout the year. In
late August, people from different parts of the world are invited to
meet in Bali for a special international Umbul Umbul Festival and
take part in the creation and exhibition of these wonderful flags.

Air-driven Auto Debutes In Europe
France - The prototype air car developed by French company
MDI is almost ready for serial production, which will begin in
France and should be under way in eight plants planned for Spain by
2005. At a conference last November, Guy Negre, the engineer that
conceived this zero-pollution car, explained that the first models
will be produced at the pilot plant in France in 2004 and that
identical plants will be opened in the countries that have signed
production agreements by 2005. MDI reported 33 fully-paid
reservations and more than 300 interested buyers worldwide.

thousands of producers in developing countries the chance to build a
