Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Positive News was handed the guardianship of Global Village News and Resources in summer of 2004. Although we would like to continue to make the archives available to subscribers and readers we would like to point out that stories published prior to issue 89 were not under our editorial guidance and would like to make a distinction that these are not necessarily a reflection of the current opinions of our editorial team.

In The News…

US Cities In Revolt Over Patriot Act

USA - The St. Paul City Council recently joined Minneapolis and more than 200 cities that have passed resolutions condemning the 2001 USA PATRIOT Act. The resolution was passed with a 6 to 1 vote, the only dissenter being member Dan Bostrom. The wording of the three and one-half page resolution reveals the specific concerns the Council has with how the legislation affects St. Paul residents, as well as how it encroaches on the city’s ability to run its own affairs without undue interference from the federal government. Council members Kathy Lantry and Dave Thune spoke with Pulse about the resolution late last week.

Israeli Reservists Refuse Service In West Bank & Gaza

Israel - About a dozen reservists from the Israeli army's top commando unit declared in late December that they would no longer serve in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, reflecting growing unease with Israel's hard-fisted policy in the Palestinian areas. Thirteen reservists, including three officers, from ''Sayeret Matkal'' made their declaration in a letter to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, according to Israeli media. "'We cannot continue to stand silent,'' they wrote, charging that Israeli military activities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip are depriving ''millions of Palestinians of human rights'' and endangering ''the fate of Israel as a democratic, Zionist and Jewish country.''

Landmine Casualties Steadily Decreasing

Global - The 1997 international treaty banning landmines has steadily reduced the number of mines being used and the dead and maimed they claim each year, but much remains to be done, U.N. officials said recently. 'The international community has come a long way in relatively little time, but a steady effort over the years is needed to succeed,' Undersecretary-General for Peacekeeping Jean-Marie Guehenno told a news conference marking the sixth anniversary of the pact being open for signature.

Lighter Side
A touch of humor to "lighten" your day.

It's Tough Leading A Spiritual Life

I was having an out of body experience one day so I grounded myself and got centered with the help of my spirit guides and almost astral traveled anyway, but the phone rang. I sensed the negative vibrations so I threw the I-Ching and checked my numerology chart and nearly had a primal, but my energy was too blocked, so I did some bioenergetics and self parenting, took some flower essence and ate an organic oat bran ginseng muffin, but my inner child wasn't feeling nurtured yet so I had a Rice Dream Frozen Pie too, but that made me hyper so I did the relaxation response while listening to my subliminal tapes,

The Only Important Education
by Johann Christoph Arnold

As a speaker in public schools, I talk with teens every week. They are usually full of life and hope. But many are desperate because of the chaos and disorder around them. It's no wonder, when you consider the way their world is changing.
