Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Positive News was handed the guardianship of Global Village News and Resources in summer of 2004. Although we would like to continue to make the archives available to subscribers and readers we would like to point out that stories published prior to issue 89 were not under our editorial guidance and would like to make a distinction that these are not necessarily a reflection of the current opinions of our editorial team.

US Presidential Candidate Receives “Gandhi Peace Award”

USA- Democratic Presidential Candidate, Dennis J. Kucinich, has been honored for his dedication and work for peace with the prestigious Gandhi Peace Award. Each year, this award is given to an individual recognized as a “distinguished peacemaker” and “for contributions made in the promotion of international peace and good will.” Past recipients include Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, Dr. Linus Pauling, Dr. Helen Caldicott, Cesar Chavez, Sen. George McGovern, and former Attorney Gen. Ramsey Clark.

According to Promoting Enduring Peace (PEP), “Dennis Kucinich has been given this award because of his dedication to peace and improving social conditions for the workers and poor, which we feel is a prerequisite for peace. For his honesty and the good person he is, and for the good spirit which he is trying to instill.”

In commemorating the International Day of Peace, with our country torn by war, Kucinich stands as a beacon of hope for change. In his acceptance speech of the Gandhi Peace Award he stated, “darkness has dropped on our country, upon our Constitution, upon our highest aspirations for America, upon our historic traditions. So we are called upon at this moment, to be witnesses for peace, for truth, for light, for love, for compassion, and for the potential of humanity to evolve from a condition where some believe that war is inevitable, to a condition where our knowledge that peace is inevitable becomes the defining paradigm of a new century and a new world.”

Often referred to as the “Peace Candidate”, Kucinich is the only candidate who has unwaveringly opposed the war with Iraq from the beginning. In the most recent debate held on September 9, he, alone, of all nine democratic candidates, stated that he would not vote to give President Bush the $87 billion he now wants to continue this war. In his words, “Bring our troops home now.”

As U.S. Congressman, Kucinich’s proposed cabinet-level Department of Peace underscores the strength of his convictions and reflects a pragmatic, intelligent process through which peace can flourish—within our homes, neighborhoods, throughout our nation, and around the world.

The Gandhi Peace Award was conceived in the late 1940’s by Dr. Jerome Davis, founder of the organization Promoting Enduring Peace (PEP). In 1959 the yearly award was established to honor persons outstanding in the work for world peace. Mr. Kucinich accepted the award at Amarantes SeaCliffs in New Haven, CT. on March 22.
