Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Positive News was handed the guardianship of Global Village News and Resources in summer of 2004. Although we would like to continue to make the archives available to subscribers and readers we would like to point out that stories published prior to issue 89 were not under our editorial guidance and would like to make a distinction that these are not necessarily a reflection of the current opinions of our editorial team.

In The News…

Terrorist Victim Launches Kindness Campaign
USA - When a suicide bomber plowed into Sbarro in Jerusalem, killing Steven Greenbaum's wife and unborn child, he vowed to fight back. But he's not waging a battle with grenades or guns. Instead, the 40-year-old New Jersey resident is waging a kindness crusade. An idealist by nature, Greenbaum believes that ordinary citizens can destroy terrorism through extraordinary acts of goodness. His year-old organization, Partners in Kindness, encourages kindness through a plethora of e-mailings, lectures, posters, and contests. More than 5,000 members on six continents subscribe to Greenbaum's weekly "Kind Words" e-mails. His readers - some from as far away as Iran, Kuwait, and Japan - report their daily acts of kindness via e-mail to Greenbaum's Web site. Repeating stories of good deeds inspires others, says Greenbaum, adding, "It's pretty contagious."

North Carolina Man Sues US Government Over Iraq War
USA - One US citizen has gone to unusual lengths to protest the war in Iraq. Donald Sullivan of Hampstead, a 23-year-veteran of the Army and Air Force, sued the U.S. government, President Bush and several members of Congress to stop what he termed an "illegal war." The civil lawsuit, filed in March in U.S. District Court in Wilmington, sought a temporary restraining order. Judge James Fox quickly dismissed the lawsuit, and Sullivan has appealed. Sullivan, who represents himself, said he would pursue the matter to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary.

Dalai Lama Considers Ending Exile & Return To Tibet
INDIA - The Dalai Lama is willing to return to Tibet and end nearly half a century of exile in India if China allows him to go back to his homeland "without preconditions". In an exclusive interview with the Guardian, Tibet's exiled spiritual leader said he was ready to return to the capital, Lhasa, which he fled in 1959, as soon as he got the "green light" from Beijing. He said China's communist government had stopped him visiting Tibet, most recently in 1984, and prevented him from traveling to sacred Buddhist sites inside China.

Guest Editorial
Twenty Unanswered Questions About 9/11
By William Bunch

The Philadelphia Daily News, Thursday 11 September 2003

No event in recent history has been written about, talked about, or watched and rewatched as much as the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 - two years ago today.

Not only was it the deadliest terrorist strike inside America, but the hijackings and attacks on New York City's World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Washington were also a seminal event for an information-soaked media age of Internet access and 24-hour news.

So, why after 730 days do we know so little about what really happened that day? No one knows where the alleged mastermind of the attack is, and none of his accomplices has been convicted of any crime. We're not even sure if the 19 people identified by the U.S. government as the suicide hijackers are really the right guys. Who put deadly anthrax in the mail? Where were the jet fighters that were supposed to protect America's skies that morning? And what was the role of our supposed allies Saudi Arabia and Pakistan? There are dozens of unanswered questions about the 2001 attacks, but we've narrowed them down to 20 - or 9 plus 11.
