Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the
leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost
entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this
represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media
and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since
we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to
collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.
The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and
deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are
doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.
Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and
people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can
achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the
true nature of who we are.
Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural
models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems
and create new options.
Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN.
We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision
of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

American Model
Native America - As Americans become increasingly aware of the
failures of traditional education and traditional schools in meeting the
needs of a growing number of young people, there has been an explosion
of alternative models in education. One, which is only recently gaining
some attention, is the traditional Native American approach. Far from
the rigid, sit-in-a-row, memorize-by-rote & don't think approach of
traditional schools, the traditional Native American approach is
holistic and based on the concepts of inquiry and intuition. Today it
would be called a right-brain approach to education.

Organic Farmers Turn A Profit On
Fallow-To-Fertile War Land
Croatia - A group of farmers near Croatia's Dalmatian coast are
turning adversity to advantage by growing organic vegetables on land
left fallow and pesticide-free during years of war and occupation in
the 1990s. And stores are ready to snap up their produce. "These
areas, due to force of circumstance, have been free of pesticide
sprays and hardly cultivated for the better part of 10 years," said
Cornelis Klein, UN Resident Representative. "Yet these very
circumstances, along with other factors such as climate, make the
region ideal for growing ecologically-sound produce." The European
Commission and the Government of Norway funded a United Nationas
feasibility study for organic food production in the area that
helped launch the initiative.

Producing Energy Could Be Child's
Play
USA - It may not solve the world's energy problem but it
certainly a lot saner than invading Iraq, and no one can deny it's
novelty. Some would call it 'child's play.' An engineering professor
at the University of Michigan's Flint campus has come up with an
idea to collect the energy of children having fun to generate
electricity for remote Third World schools. With an estimated 40
percent of the world's population without reliable access to
electricity, Dr. Raj Pandian's idea to harness energy from
playground equipment -- teeter-totters, merry-go-rounds, swing sets
and the like -- is simple, inexpensive and badly needed. And it
works.
