Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Positive News was handed the guardianship of Global Village News and Resources in summer of 2004. Although we would like to continue to make the archives available to subscribers and readers we would like to point out that stories published prior to issue 89 were not under our editorial guidance and would like to make a distinction that these are not necessarily a reflection of the current opinions of our editorial team.

In The News…

Peacemakers Create Bridge Over Troubled Waters

NIGERIA - James Wuye was once a self-described militant Christian youth, and Muhammad Ashafa a radical Muslim activist - unlikely partners in efforts to bring peace to Kaduna, the ground zero of religious conflict in Nigeria. But instead of battling when violence breaks out, Reverend Wuye, a Pentecostal preacher, and Imam Ashafa, who leads a local mosque, go to the frontlines to try to calm tempers and find solutions. Some of the worst communal clashes since democracy returned to Nigeria four years ago have taken place in Kaduna. The city marks the ostensible border between the Muslim north and the Christian south and is home to migrants from all over the country. "Kaduna is like dynamite, and everybody is treading carefully, because conflict of any form can have a devastating effect on both communities," says Wuye.

Quackbusters Face Court Battle

USA - The bell is tolling for the National Council Against Health Fraud (NCAHF), it's president Robert S. Baratz, it's vice-president de-licensed MD Stephen Barrett (quackwatch.com), and the rest of the board members: Maybe even the membership. They are in the final days in a California Appeals Court, and it doesn't look good for them.

Report Shows Quality-Of-Living Gains In Arab World

EGYPT - The first Arab Human Development Report, sponsored by the United Nations Development Program, recently highlighted human development achieved by the 22 Arab states — with their 280 million people — over the past three decades, while also focusing on the challenges that the region still faces. Life expectancy in the region has increased by 15 years, the report says, while mortality rates of children under five have fallen by two-thirds, and adult literacy has almost doubled. Moreover, the region's growth has been "pro-poor," and as a result there is much less abject poverty — defined as an income of less than a dollar a day — than in any other developing region in the world.
