Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Positive News was handed the guardianship of Global Village News and Resources in summer of 2004. Although we would like to continue to make the archives available to subscribers and readers we would like to point out that stories published prior to issue 89 were not under our editorial guidance and would like to make a distinction that these are not necessarily a reflection of the current opinions of our editorial team.

In The News…

Bush Faces New Opponent - Public Opinion
Global - From Calcutta to Chicago, from Rome to Rio de Janeiro, an estimated six million people poured into the streets of 600 cities around the world last weekend in protest the USA's declared intent to invade Iraq. To the surprise and chagrin of the Bush administration, it became very apparent that they face a much bigger opponent than Saddam Hussein. It's World Public Opinion.

New Stanford Research Shows Less TV = Less Aggression

Eyewitness Report From Bagdad – February 16th
Iraq - It is Sunday, the day after the massive international peace demonstrations. We here in Baghdad are so heartened by this historic event. Thank you world! It felt like a great prayer, a shout, an uprising sweeping across the land, a call for sanity against the insane accumulation of weapons and the war-making heritage of our species. The great historian Will Durant once calculated that in all of recorded history there have been only 29 years without war. And now, at last, the people are finding their power and linking arms across all that divides them and calling out to the politicians and the generals and the arms-dealers, "Stop this madness!"

Retraction & Apology
In our last issue we published an article entitled “American Refugees Find Scandinavian Safe Haven” It was edited from a original article by Dennis Hans, appearing in “Scoop”- a New Zealand based internet news agency. We have subsequently learned that this article was written as a tongue-in-cheek piece. Dennis Hans is a freelance writer whose work has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, National Post (Canada) and online atTomPaine.com , Slate and The Black World Today (tbwt.com), among other outlets. Accuracy is important to us and we apologize to our readers for publishing information that was not true. It has reminded us how important discernment is when reading the news, regardless of the source.

State of the Universe Address - 2003

by Swami Beyondananda

Hello everybody -- it is great to be here ... and you know what? We really have no choice. Because no matter where we are, we are always here. And it is always now. In fact, there's even a book called The Power of Now. I haven't had time to read it yet, but I hope to get to it in a later now.

Meanwhile, back in this now, the issue facing the United States, and indeed the world is, will George Bush give in to his Big Iraq Attack and order up a war? Latest reports say that a war to force a regime change in Iraq will cost $200 billion. It is puzzling to me why some of those fiscal fitness fanatics in the Republican Party haven't tried to find a cheaper way to do it. Maybe if they offered the Iraqis half -- $100 billion -- they could do it themselves. Then we'd still have $100 billion left to spend on regime change in this country……..
