Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the
leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost
entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this
represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media
and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since
we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to
collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.
The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and
deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are
doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.
Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and
people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can
achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the
true nature of who we are.
Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural
models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems
and create new options.
Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN.
We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision
of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Positive News was handed the guardianship
of Global Village News and Resources in summer of 2004. Although we would like
to continue to make the archives available to subscribers and readers we would
like to point out that stories published prior to issue 89 were not under our
editorial guidance and would like to make a distinction that these are not
necessarily a reflection of the current opinions of our editorial team.
In The News…
Like A Phoenix, Soweto Rises From The Ashes of Apartheid
South Africa - This wild land survived
apartheid undeveloped, though not altogether unscarred. From Mount
Somoho’s summit the sweeping view of Soweto includes such significant
landmarks as Freedom Charter Square and Avalon cemetery. Tales of buried
treasure and secret gatherings in hidden caves are woven in the earth.
Once a dangerous place to walk and play, a hiding place for arms and a
dumping ground for waste, this land has a strength that resonates with a
defiant sense of unity. During the closing years of apartheid, Mandla
Mentoor struggled to create beauty and livelihoods for his community out
of the waste that Soweto and their mountain was drowning in. Working
from Mandla’s backyard, a group of children worked with paper, bottles
and scrap metal to create painted sculptures. Years later, Mandla’s
imagination became transfixed by the mountain itself.

NASA Images Find 1,750,000 Year Old Man-Made Bridge
USA - The NASA Shuttle has imaged a
mysterious ancient bridge between India and Sri Lanka, as mentioned in
the ancient Hindu text, the Ramayana. The evidence, say experts
matter-of-factly, is in the Digital Image Collection. The recently
discovered bridge, currently named as Adam's Bridge and made of a chain
of shoals, 30 km long, in the Palk Straits between India and Sri Lanka,
reveals a mystery behind it. The bridge's unique curvature and
composition by age reveals that it is man-made. Legend as well as
archeological studies reveal that the first signs of human inhabitants
in Sri Lanka date back to the primitive age, about 1,750,000 years ago
and the bridge's age is almost equivalent.

it is as significant and as beautiful as birth itself. This is because
death is the celebration of a life lived, and by meeting it on your own
