Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the
leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost
entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this
represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media
and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since
we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to
collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.
The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and
deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are
doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.
Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and
people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can
achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the
true nature of who we are.
Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural
models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems
and create new options.
Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN.
We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision
of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

One Planet Fashion: Organic Textiles Take
to the Catwalk
The
UK’s first organic tweed, modelled by Patrick Holden and Craig Sams, the
Soil Association’s Director and Chairman, was one of the wonders of the
Organic Fashion Show, which launched the One Planet Agriculture
conference in Cardiff. “Producing Hebridean and Native Breed Tweeds is
just one step towards revitalising the traditional industry of weaving,”
said Isle of Mull weavers, Bob and Kathy Ryan.
Opening the fashion show, compere Zac Goldsmith,
Editor of The Ecologist, pointed out how important the whole organic
movement has become. “Organic males,” he declared, “have a much higher
sperm count! Conventional cotton production accounts for a quarter of
all the world’s insecticide use”. He commended Marks & Spencer “for
their leadership across the board with their plan to go carbon neutral
by 2012.”
A new Global Organic Textile Standard, will be
introduced this year. “This will increase the choice of certified
organic textiles,” said William Lana, co-director of Greenfibres.
Fashion brands are now queuing up for Soil
Association Organic Certification and the organisation, Organic
Exchange, has recently predicted that future sales of organic cotton
will more than triple over the next two years.
Other companies taking part in the Organic Fashion
show included Green Baby, Greenfibres, People Tree, Seasalt, Amanda
Jones – Yeo Valley Farm, Kate’s Originals, Ardalanish, Saf UK, Howies,
Clothworks, Middle Campscott Farm, T-Shirt and Sons and Organic Leather.
