Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

It now serves more than 6 million families across four continents, 97 per cent of whom are women, with loans, savings accounts, insurance, information support and other services, enabling them to set up their own self-sustaining businesses and thus escape the hardships of poverty.

Sustainable Communities Network. Connecting citizens with the resources needed to implement innovative processes and programmes to restore the economic, environmental and social health and vitality of their communities. The Sustainable Communities Network is for those who want to help make their communities more livable. A broad range of issues are addressed and resources are provided to help make this happen. The web site is being developed to increase the visibility of what has worked for other communities, and to promote a lively exchange of information to help create community sustainability in both urban and rural areas.

www.newurbanism.org
New Urbanism promotes the creation and restoration of diverse, walkable, compact, vibrant, mixed-use communities composed of the same components as conventional development, but assembled in a more integrated fashion, in the form of complete communities. These contain housing, work places, shops, entertainment, schools, parks, and civic facilities essential to the daily lives of the residents, all within easy walking distance of each other. New Urbanism promotes the increased use of trains and light rail, instead of more highways and roads. Urban living is rapidly becoming the new hip and modern way to live for people of all ages. Currently, there are over 500 New Urbanist projects.

www.ilsr.org
The Institute for Local Self Reliance (ILSR) is a small organization with a remarkable track record for breaking new ground in promoting sustainable communities. Every year since its founding ILSR has researched the feasibility of communities generating a significant amount of wealth from local resources and has worked with the increasing numbers of communities interested in moving in that direction. In the initial years they focused on their surrounding Washington, D.C. neighbourhood, Adams Morgan. Their urban townhouse became a working model of their ideas, with rooftop hydroponic gardens and solar collectors and a commercial basement sprout operation and composting toilet. They researched the income flows and ownership patterns of the neighbourhood and helped to build cooperative businesses.

www.neweconomics.org
NEF is an independent think-and-do tank that inspires and demonstrates real economic well-being. They aim to improve quality of life by promoting innovative solutions that challenge mainstream thinking on economic, environment and social issues. They work in partnership and put people and the planet first. NEF works on economic, social and environmental issues through a mixture of practical pilot projects and tools for change, in-depth research, campaigning, policy discussion, and raising awareness through the media and publications. We also incubate new organisations and campaigns that can create long-term change in society. They currently have three 'hot topics': real world economics, clone town Britain, and well-being.
