Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the
leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost
entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this
represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media
and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since
we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to
collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.
The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and
deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are
doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.
Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and
people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can
achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the
true nature of who we are.
Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural
models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems
and create new options.
Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN.
We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision

Awakening Earth Duane Elgin wins the 2006
Goi Peace Award
 The
Goi Peace Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in Tokyo, is
dedicated to creating a peaceful and harmonious world, transcending all
boundaries of race, religion, or politics. Their Peace Award is given to
an individual who they feel has made outstanding contributions towards
helping to create this peace and harmony for all life on earth.
This year, the committee has selected Duane Elgin for
his outstanding efforts to promote a new vision, consciousness and
lifestyle conducive to the creation of a new civilisation. Duane is the
author of three major books: Awakening Earth, Promise Ahead and
Voluntary Simplicity. Through his pioneering work in ‘future’ research
and education, he has inspired many ordinary people to transform their
value systems and build towards a more sustainable and spiritual
culture.
Duane writes: “As a speaker and an educator, I’m
passionate about exploring: 1) The big picture of the human journey as
our world approaches a pivot in history, and what we can all do to build
a more promising future. 2) Voluntary simplicity and more sustainable
ways of living. 3) Transforming the conversation and the consciousness
of democracy by changing mass media. 4) The unifying vision emerging
from science and spirituality, and its implications for seeing ourselves
as living in a living universe.”
Duane has worked as a senior social scientist with
SRI International where he co-authored numerous studies on the
long-range future for such government agencies as the Science
Foundation. Over the past 20 years, he has also co-founded three
non-profit organisations concerned with media accountability.
The Award Ceremony took place in Tokyo this November
during the annual Goi Peace Foundation Forum, which this year was
dedicated to Creating a New Civilisation: Collaboration with Youth.
By honoring and highlighting Duane’s work, the Goi
Peace Foundation aims to cultivate a critical mass of awakened global
citizens at this tipping point in human history.’
