Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Breathing Places
by Martha Hammond

Over the next three years, the BBC is joining forces with the wildlife charities of the UK to publicise, popularise and rejuvenate wild and public ‘breathing places’ across the country.

‘A Breathing Place is somewhere you can escape the hassles of everyday life and get your hands dirty; where you can listen to birdsong, admire the bluebells in Spring and appreciate the stunning colours in Autumn. Quite simply, it’s a place where you, your family and friends can rediscover the wonders of nature.’

Over the next three years, the BBC is joining forces with the wildlife charities of the UK to publicise, popularise and rejuvenate wild and public ‘breathing places’ across the country. The aim is to encourage everyone to get involved in visiting, volunteering and transform-ing local spaces to create pleasant and wildlife-friendly habitats which can be enjoyed for years to come.

Places targeted in the campaign will include parks, school areas, workplace grounds, riverbanks and coastal regions, cemeteries and nature reserves. One of the project partners, Big Lottery Fund, has offered specialist small grants for the improvement of ‘breathing places’, which will receive funding from the beginning of May 2007.
The comprehensive mini-website can help you find out about the visiting and volunteering opportunities at ‘breathing places’ near you, as well as offering free advice for community groups on how to transform local spaces. So what are you waiting for? Get your wellies out, button up your coat and go explore!
