Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the
leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost
entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this
represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media
and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since
we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to
collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.
The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and
deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are
doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.
Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and
people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can
achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the
true nature of who we are.
Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural
models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems
and create new options.
Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN.
We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision
of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Building a Community of Like-minds
Could My Positive News be the Opportunity?
In the last issue of GVNR I wrote about the transition that Positive News and GVNR were going through. As part of this process Positive News and
GVNR will share a platform, along with a new website we are creating called ‘My Positive News’
A few months ago, we started working with Virtual Schools. The idea being to take Positive News into schools and help young people create their own
positive news newspapers. When I discovered the potential of the underlying technology that Richard Nichols of Virtual Schools was using to do this, we discussed ways
in which we might be able to achieve similar results with Positive News.
One thing I would like to do, is to get feedback from people who we are not yet in touch with, but would like to be. People who are creating
positive solutions within their own communities and their own lives. I also wanted to explore other ways in which to share stories, quickly and easily, with the rest
of the world and be able to interact with every-one involved.
Many of the issues that Positive News writes about are now becoming part of the mainstream. This made me question if it was time for us to move
forward and I considered what the next steps should be. The idea is to form a ‘virtual’ and like-minded community of friends who share the same sense of purpose in
creating a positive future. This is the inspiration behind My Positive News.

Changing the Dream
Nick Hart-Williams explains the social movement that is Changing the Dream
It was an incredible moment. I was attending a workshop in London on Fundraising from the Heart, something I figured I’d need to understand
given the non-profit organisation I’d been running for two years. Heading the workshop was Lynne Twist, a good friend who had spoken at the first Be The Change
conference in 2004. Like most people, I knew Lynne as the woman who had raised millions of dollars for the Hunger Project. In fact, she and her husband Bill had
changed direction a few years back. They had both been summoned – initially through their dreams – to make contact with a remote tribe from the Ecuadorean Amazon,
known as the Achuar, who had remained hidden from Western culture until mounting pressures urged them to seek help. They knew that oil companies were becoming a
threat.

Big Ask Gets Big Success
Following a ground breaking and hugely successful protest by Friends of the Earth (FOE) and its supporters, a climate change bill has been
announced in this year’s Queens Speech. Launched in May of 2005 by musician Thom Yorke, the Big Ask campaign asked supporters to write to their local MP’s and urge
them to back a climate change bill. Since the campaign was launched an estimated 100,000 people have written to and emailed their MP’s resulting in 412 (over two
thirds of the UK’s MP’s) backing the proposed bill.

The Carbon Cycle
The USA is often cast as the arch-villain of climate change with its
disproportionate level of emissions – 5 per cent of the world’s population emitting 25 per cent of climate change gases – and its refusal to sign the Kyoto protocol.
But what are the positive stories? This June Dr Kate Rawles set out from El Paso in Mexico, travelling by bicycle, to find out.

Rhythm of the World
The
Arctic Monkeys, Sting and Jack Johnson are but a few of the artists to
take action against climate change by contributing to the Rhythms Del
Mundo (Rhythm of the world) project. Along with previously mentioned
artist, U2, Maroon 5 and Faithless collaborated with the legendary Buena
Vista Social club to record an album with the aim of raising awareness
of climate change and supporting those who have fallen victim to its
effects.

Sally Garozzo-Essence of Solitude CD
Sally Garozzo
“I'm a real mixed bag”, writes singer-songwriter Sally Garozzo, explaining her bi-national parentage. My father is from Sicily and my mother from the sunny shores
of Clacton on Sea in Essex; so I’m a mixed bag of fish n chips; one lonely cockle and a handful of sun dried tomatoes with chilli!"
This candid, fresh approach to self-description is full of personality, as is Sally’s music.

I am writing to you as the United Nations have asked us to produce a youth summary of this year's fantastic UN Human Development Report which was

So we have to turn around the book more quickly than ever we have before - but, with your help, we are confident we can do it!

HumanLight Celebration
DATE: Saturday, December 23, 2006
In Western societies, late December is a season of good cheer and a time for gatherings of friends and families. During the winter holiday season, where the word
"holiday" has taken on a more secular meaning, many events are observed. This tradition of celebrations, however, is grounded in supernatural religious beliefs that
many people in modern society cannot accept. HumanLight presents an alternative reason to celebrate: a Humanist's vision of a good future. It is a future in which all
people can identify with each other, behave with the highest moral standards, and work together toward a happy, just and peaceful world. HumanLight is celebrated on
December 23 each year.
