Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Transitions

Change is happening everywhere and what’s more it seems to be accelerating. What used to be considered as alternative and fringe has now been absorbed into the mainstream. Look back and see how much is now generally accepted but would not have been just a few years ago. There is more discussion over the implications of global warming and greater concern over the knock-on effect of our political policies. Gradually, we are starting to think more like a planet.

As more of us choose to take action in our own lives to make a difference, so the tools have become available for us to share what we do with others. Worldwide alliances are now forming to give support to those who share the common purpose of creating a positive future.

Now change is happening with GVNR. It is now 3 years since Michael Lightweaver handed us at Positive News the custodianship of the newsletter and since then Janet Burgart has worked with us creating the monthly editions. Now as we go through this transition we would like to thank Michael for the opportunity he gave us and Janet for the hard work and dedication she has given. Future issues of GVNR will be hosted on the Positive News website and will change in format and possibly in title, over the next few months. By bringing GVNR even more under the Positive News umbrella it will share in the developments that are planned for the future. We will also be able to provide a wider span of stories from our international network and to make them more accessible as our network expands.

We share below the story of the butterfly which appears in the winter issue of Living Lightly, Positive News subscribers magazine. Each action we take is diverse and unique but it contributes to a greater whole. Individually we can do a huge amount but together we can make a real difference. The story of the butterfly is our story too. The caterpillar has no choice about becoming a butterfly, as long as it escapes the usual pitfalls. It has to emerge from the primordial soup. Perhaps it’s time that we should too.

May I take this opportunity to wish you peace and unity for the New Year,

Shauna

The Butterfly

In the laws of science and quantum physics, everything that exists in the universe is energy, intimately vibrating and interacting. In this world there is no separation, and so when Deepak Chopra MD talks about the natural world as an extension of all living beings, such statements as ‘the trees are an extension of our own lungs’ make perfect sense. If we all recognise this reality in our hearts, how could we destroy rainforests without feeling it is our lungs that we are affecting? Quantum theory supports the idea that when we act without reverence in the outer world, the inner self is affected – and conversely, positive transformation of

Puppets Plant Ideas
by Tom Allan

First Published in Positive News Issue 49

The story of Elzeard Bouffier begins in a barren land, parched and scoured by winds, on the high plains of Provence. Nothing grows there but dry grass and lavender, the fragrance of which is wafted over the audience using giant fans. No one lives there but a shepherd and his dog – the stars of a remarkable puppet show, performed at Edinburgh Festival by Richard Medrington and Rick Conte.

Breaking the Ice
First published in Living Lightly Issue 37

Cape Farewell is an expedition of writers, oceanographers, sculptors, scientists and film makers united in the common aim of raising awareness about climate change. The idea, conceived over four years ago by artist David Buckland, was that Cape Farewell would literally sail into the heart of the climate change debate by navigating The Noorderlicht, an ancient Dutch schooner, to areas of the arctic only recently made accessible by the retreating ice-caps.
