Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Editorial
Shauna Crockett-Burrows
Recently we have been drawing people’s attention to groups and organisations forming alliances. I was at two events over the weekend, before this current issue was compiled, that invited people to come together to shift awareness towards peace, social justice, human rights and environmental sustainability.

Our Aim is Simple: to Change the World
Leadership from national governments is crucial in tackling climate change, but when it comes to practical action on the ground cities are centre stage. Cities have a special responsibility to cut emissions because they are huge consumers of energy and uniquely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. And as the urgency for action increases, we cities need to build wider and stronger links across the world." This was the call to arms given by Nicky Gavron, Deputy Mayor of London speaking before The World Cities Leadership Climate Change Summit. This, the first conference of the Large Cities Climate Leadership Group was held last year in London, and brought together representatives from over twenty international cities in an effort to tackle climate change on a municipal level.

Crossing the Divide
This year a team, which included a New York firefighter, an Israeli ex-combat pilot and a Ukrainian soldier, embarked on a journey across the Sahara Desert. Each had lost friends or family as a result of international conflicts and all had strong opinions on war, peace and Islamic and Western ideology. "Each team member has come from an extreme background which makes them natural enemies, and they will only survive if they can learn to trust each other," said Heskel Nathaniel, organisation founder.

Global Resources
Websites devoted to Positive Planetary Transformation

www.bigbarn.co.uk
BigBarn is the UK's no.1 local food website helping people to find good, safe, accountable food from local sources. The first thing people need when they decide to buy food locally is information. Unfortunately as we are now so dependent on supermarkets, and they in turn so powerful, that it's hard to know where the alternatives are any more. The BigBarn map shows you where your alternatives are. Just enter your postcode in the 'Find Your Local Producers' box and it'll show you a map of your area with all your producers listed as icons on it.

www.seacology.org
Seacology is the world's premier nonprofit environmental organization with the sole purpose of preserving the highly endangered biodiversity of islands throughout the world. In the last 400 years the majority of the world's plant and animal extinctions have taken place on islands, leading biologist Dr. Peter J. Bryant to call this unprecedented rate of species extinctions "one of the swiftest and most profound biological catastrophes in the history of the earth."  Indigenous people are all too often faced with the dilemma of choosing between protecting their precious natural resources, and economic development. Seacology searches for win-win situations where both the local environment is protected and islanders receive some tangible benefit for doing so.

www.lowimpact.org
Low-Impact Living Initiative (LILI) is an environmental organisation (founded 2001) based at Redfield Community (founded 1978) in Buckinghamshire The aim is to help people to understand the damage that human impact is causing to our planet, to change aspects of their lives to lower their own impact, and at the same time save money and improve their quality of life.

www.planetfriendly.net
People & Planet is a unique gateway to environment, peace and sustainable living, in Canada and beyond. They are probably best known for their listings of jobs, contracts and internships, volunteer opportunities, and events. Each of these has a corresponding section of the website, and an e-mail list. They also offer Gateways & Guides on topics ranging from Organic/Sustainable Food & Agriculture, to Renewable Energy, to Alternative & Eco-Media, to Sustainable Living Links.

The Simplicity Resource Guide gallagherpress.com/pierce
In this site you will find a wide spectrum of resources related to voluntary simplicity, a way of life that addresses the widespread yearning in North America and other western countries for a slower pace of life with more time for joyful relationships, fulfilling work, and living one's dreams. For some, though not all, people, to live more simply involves working less, wanting less, and spending less. But voluntary simplicity is not about doing without. In fact it's just the opposite -- it's about having enough. Enough intimacy with others and with nature, enough sense of purpose and fulfilling work, enough fun and joy. Voluntary simplicity is about living life fully, of experiencing life as a whole human being. It's also about caring for the earth and people throughout the world who truly do not have enough. Included in this site are many book reviews, a few articles and essays, and information about organizations and activities related to simplicity.
