Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Strong Winds

The largest onshore windfarm in Europe is to be built in Scotland, providing clean energy for 200,000 homes.  The Whitelee project, funded by Scottish Power, was given the go-ahead by the Scottish Executive in April and will create electricity for nearly every home in Glasgow. Scottish Power is currently the largest generator of wind power in the UK, with Whitelee becoming their fourth wind farm project in six years.

The first was built at Hare Hill in Airship in October 2000, which supplies 10,000 homes with clean energy. The combined output of all their projects now totals at 400 mega watts. Whitely will meet a massive 11% of Scotland’s aim to source 18% of their power from renewable sources.

“This development alone will provide jobs, generate affordable clean green electricity on a scale hitherto unheard of in Scotland or indeed the UK and Europe, and take a big step forward in reducing Scotland’s harmful carbon emissions. The Scottish Executive today is making a bit of history,” said Maf Smith, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables.

Scottish Power are also hoping the central location of the site, which is near to Glasgow and main roads, will attract large numbers of visitors and there are plans to build recreational facilities and cycle and walking routes to Whitely.

“This is fantastic news,” said Marcus Rand, Chief Executive of the British Wind Energy Association. “Wind, both on and offshore, represents our best chance of delivering significant quantities of carbon free power by 2015 and this project will be an essential part of that delivery.”

Construction is due to start this summer and the first turbines will become operational in 2008
