Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.

The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.

Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the true nature of who we are.

Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems and create new options.

Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN. We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

One Planet Lifestyle by Pooran Desai

“Every couple of years the Worldwide Fund for Nature produces the Living Planet Report. It looks at the level of global resource consumption compared to the ability of the planet to produce those resources. We have about 12.6 billion hectares of productive land and sea on the planet. Analysis suggests that in the mid 70s we exceeded the carrying capacity of the planet and are currently consuming about 30 per cent more than the planet can sustain in the long term. This hides big discrepancies between consumption rates of different countries: if everyone consumed as much as the average person in the UK, we’d need three planets to support us. We have what we might call a ‘three planet lifestyle’. Countries, like Mozambique, have a ‘quarter of a planet lifestyle’. China has a ‘one planet lifestyle’, but is growing rapidly. Australia and the US have ‘five planet lifestyles’. The United Arab Emirates have something like a ‘six or seven planet lifestyle’. At BioRegional we’ve looked at creating ways of living where we can reduce resource consumption by two thirds. Then we’ll have a ‘one planet lifestyle’ here in the UK.

Editorial

Every three months of publishing Positive News the deadline exactly co-insides with that of Global Village News.

We see this as an opportunity to share past and present stories from our subscriber’s magazine Living Lightly on the Earth. We are just in the process of building a subscribers' section on the Positive News website where Living Lightly can be read online. Another new development is the addition of over seas and local pages on the Positive News website we are inviting stories tat report of sustainable solutions and positive action in your local area wherever you are in the global village.

Next time when deadlines for the paper and GVNR hit exactly the same moment in time we plan to share stories from the Hong Kong, Spain, US New York and Argentinean editions who are part of the positive news international network.

In peace and unity,
Shauna

P.S The next edition if GVNR will be based on ethical fashion, a growing phenomena which can effect everyone from cotton producers to high-street shops.
