Our Purpose
Our intent is to provide you with timely news and resources from the
leading edge of human achievement. The conventional media focuses almost
entirely on individual or collective human failure and dysfunction. While this
represents only a tiny fraction of the human experience, it dominates the media
and therefore molds our individual thoughts and collective consciousness. Since
we know that "form follows thought," it is only logical that as we continue to
collectively focus on failure, we will continue to create more of the same.
The world faces many challenges and it is important to acknowledge these and
deal with them. The conventional press and most of the alternative press are
doing an excellent job of bringing these to our attention.
Our intent is to report on events, activities, achievements, project and
people who represent the highest and best of human endeavor and what we can
achieve, both individually and collectively. We believe that this represents the
true nature of who we are.
Our purpose is not only to inform and inspire, but to provide cross cultural
models from around the world as to what people are doing to solve world problems
and create new options.
Positive News completely shares these aims and objectives with those of GVN.
We see the Global Village as those throughout the world who have seen a vision
of a new era and are dedicated into bringing it into reality.

Abdul Kareem’s Desert Oasis
Through perseverance and dedication a thirty-two acre plot of land near the village of Puliamkulam in the Kasargod district of India has been transformed from a barren
and desert landscape in to a lush and flourishing forest that’s not only brought life to this once arid area but has given the soil the stability required for a water
table to form.

White Slopes, Green Practices
Every winter thousands flock to the ski slopes, from Switzerland to Colorado skiing is a pastime enjoyed by many but until recently has been extremely polluting.
The combined effect of the daily use of ski lifts as well as transporting goods up to the often remote locations uses large amounts of fossil fuels and
electricity. Fortunately many winter sports resorts are reacting to climate change in an effort to reduce carbon emissions and take better care of their natural
surroundings.

Breathe Easy in Croydon
Asthma sufferers in Croydon, a district on the outskirts of London, will be breathing easier in 2006, thanks to a pilot project that warns them when
air pollution is high. Set up by the European Satellite Agency (The ESA), the project relies on a satellite, which takes daily readings of air pollution levels. These
daily forecasts are sent via text message to people who suffer from asthma and other breathing problems.

Bringing Thatch up to Scratch!
The Heritage Lottery Fund has set aside a grant of seven million pounds, hoping to help preserve Britain's traditional crafts. In past years the passing down of
trades and trade skills from father to son was commonplace, but recently rural crafts such as thatching, reed cutting and dry stone wall building are dying out because
of a lack of trained workers. For Full Article, Click Here:

Editorial
It is now 43 years after Dr Martin Luther King’s famous “I have a dream” speech, since then huge progress in racial equality
has been made. Unfortunately racism is far from a thing of the past, though the speech displays how thinking beyond cultural and social precedence is the first
step to creating a better world. This quote is taken from Mohamed ElBaradei's Nobel Lecture. It is not a call to arms or demand for change and asks only that you
imagine. For Full Article, Click Here:

ViewPoint
Our Fragile World by Caroline Lucas
As a green party member of the European Parliament, I often find myself arguing over the technical details of environmental legislation – the details of the
EU’s emissions trading scheme, say, or the maximum permitted levels of pesticides use.
Rarely do I get the chance to step back and see the bigger picture: the picture presented so stunningly in Our Fragile World: the beauty of the planet under
pressure.
